Hi guys. Just thought I would post a few updates for anyone that does actually check the site. Firstly, the club competition will be held on the 24th of November, and all entry forms should now be handed in. From Captain Nina:
"The competition will have a matted area the ring, four corner referees plus one main referee, there will also be medals for the winners. This will be a very well organised event.
This competition is the perfect opportunity for you all to TRY competing, this goes for SENIORS and JUNIORS. Later in the year we have two competitions in the pipeline, one will be a Leeds Uni vs. Leeds Met competition and the other will be a competition open to all Universities.
I know that some of you are apprehensive to compete, especially girls, but this competition is perfect to increase your confidence. Not only will this competition give you an incite into how a competition runs, but it will also help improve your sparring in classes.
In the competition GIRLS vs GIRLS and GUYS vs GUYS. So you will only be competing with the same sex, and someone of the same weight and ability as you to make things fair.
Many people dont have confidence in sparring, almost scared of it, but you shouldnt be all sparring in our club is friendly. We base our sparring on a semi-contact basis and can assure that noone will get hurt, as people will be disqualified if the contact is too hard. This competition is very friendly you will be competing against your peers, its the perfect opportunity for you all to practice your sparring, and understand how different sparring is in a competition environment.
Everyone will also have to spar in the grading, it would be highly recommended that if you want to get a GOOD GRADE in sparring that you enter the competition-you will benefit massively from this experience."
Lastly, the grading will take place on the 29th November and on the 30th we will have a celebratory meal at sports cafe in town. Tickets are £15 and include a champagne reception + free food! So get your tickets NOWWW!

LUU Kickboxing is the largest martial arts club at the University. The combination of kickboxing and self defense makes our club very popular. If you want to try a martial art that offers training on how to handle real llife situations whilst improving your fitness levels in a friendly environment, then come to one of our training sessions and see how you get along.
Most of us are acutely aware, through personal experience or the media, that in today's increasingly violent society, the risks to our personal safety are greater than they ever have been. With this in mind, alongside our sport-based Kickboxing Training system, LUU is proud to introduce Commando Krav Maga into our training package. CKM is a highly functional self-protection system developed initially for the military and later adapted for Civilians due to its 'easy to learn' and practical self-defence benefits. For further information please refer to the 'Training' section of this website or speak to one of our Instructors.
